Talk to any top psychologist in the world and they will echo what you are probably already noticing about yourself-that it’s really hard to get yourself to do something if you are not interested in it. Our human minds operate like this-we spend time and energy on what we like and what we want. The key to sticking with whatever new year’s resolution you make this year is to want to do it.

Ask yourself 2 questions:

  1. Why do I want to do this?
  2. Can I do this?

Some of you may have the most sincere and energetic motivation to achieve the resolution you put in place this week, but if you aren’t convinced you can accomplish it…it probably won’t happen. So there are just 2 things you need to do to set this year off right-and on track for accomplishing your goal:

  1. Identify your motivation and constantly set up reminders for it. (For weight loss: energy to play with kids, save on medical costs, go skiing on vacation)
  2. Learn the skills you need to successfully complete your goal. (proper exercise form, how to cook tasty and healthy food, how to minimize cravings)

By keeping your “want to” in tact and setting forth the steps to achieve that goal, you are destined for success!
